A Holiday Update

I hope your holidays are treating you as well as mine have so far.  I’ve lucked out, as my work decided to close up shop the week before new years, so I ended up with Dec. 24th – Jan. 3rd off.  Those 11 days are a very welcomed break.  To add to that, my brother who lives in Scottsdale, is in town for the entire time I’m off of work.  I have nothing specifically planned, so it’s going to be a lot of hanging out and working on my house.

Anyways, I’m sure a few (very few) people noticed this place was gone for a while.  I got a little aggressive at the wrong time with this place.  I really wanted to host this on my own so I had more flexibility to make it look and work like I wanted.   I did this the beginning of November, then I moved out of my friends Nick’s house and into mine with out internet.  So long story short, I didn’t follow through on what I needed to do to make this place work.  I finally found the time to do this yesterday, and it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be.  So here I am again, I’ll get some updates on my house on here soon, because it’s change quite a bit since the last posts.

In the last month I’ve painted cabinets (lots of paint), had them installed, had appliances delivered and carpet installed in my bedroom.  It’s not there quite yet, but come the end of next week it will feel much more like a home then it ever has.  I’m very excited just to have something that feels like home, as I haven’t really had one since I moved out of my apartment in mid September.  The one thing that I’m looking forward is to not have to eat out every meal.  Don’t get me wrong, I probably enjoy eating out more then the next guy, but it’s getting quite old.  There’s only so many place you can go and it’s becoming expensive.

My Christmas haul this morning was very nice.  I’ve got much that is needed to stock my kitchen, knives, toaster, cups, mugs, plates, bowls, pots, pans, and towels.  Oh and my brother got me a Toddy cold brew coffee maker and my dad got me a new Dewalt cordless drill.

Well, now that this site is back up, I will get back to posting regularly.  Expect a post with a bunch of house photos soon.

Happy Holidays

Please disregard the construction mess

Doing a bit of editing of my stylesheet here. I’m a bit of a novice, so it’s not there yet, but I’m getting there. In the meantime, here’s a video from yesterday of the sheetrock all hung with the initial taping done. Looking pretty good.

Now the fun stuff

As I’m sure you’ve noticed the past two weeks have been dedicated to tearing apart my house.  So far we have taken the back bedroom, the kitchen and the back entry area all down to the studs.  With the help of a good friend (and another guy) the decrepit deck is now a thing of the past.  All of this destruction has overfilled one large dumpster to the point where I think I will need another one delivered this week.  The demo has provided some very nice surprises, most importantly the gain of about 14″ in ceiling hight in area just beyond the kitchen.

But really who am I kidding, the demo portion is the boring part of this whole process.  This week we get to start putting the house back together, and it’s going to be a busy one.  All week I have the plumber, electricians in to do their things.  Wednesday should be crazy, the glass block windows are being installed in the basement, the new windows in the kitchen will have the necessary framing done, and the drywall will start to be installed.  It may actually look like something that you could live in soon.

If all goes well, I think I am going to be refinishing the wood floors next weekend.  I’ve never done this but my friend Jay says he’s done it a few times and my neighbor said he and his brother could help too (his only payment needed is beer!!).  As things are laying out now, I may be able to move in next week, which would be a perfect birthday present.

Well I was going to leave you with some pictures of the process, but I forgot my camera this morning.  I’ll try to get some up tomorrow or maybe even tonight.  This picture is sort of what my house looks like right now.

My house...

My house... (note: this is not really my house)

Whew

After much tinkering over the past few days, I think I’ve got this place to the form where I wanted (for now at least).  Let me know what you think of my banner.  Anyways, it’s late and I’ve got a bike ride planned in the morning.  Night.

Ahhhhh

Inspection in one hour. Wish me luck, as I’ve accepted this place “As-Is”.
